The suspect was held on suspicion of murder whilst a post-mortem was carried out, with police treating the death as unexplained.

The force has since confirmed that the post-mortem revealed no signs of foul play and the 76-year-old was released under investigation.

A spokesperson said: “A post-mortem was carried out today and we have nothing further to suggest her death was suspicious. However, it will continue to be treated as unexplained while we await toxicology reports.

“A 76-year-old man arrested yesterday has now been released under investigation while our enquiries continue.

“The woman’s next of kin are being kept informed of any updates.”
