Stabbing victim airlifted to hospital by Wiltshire Air Ambulance

A stabbing victim was airlifted to hospital by Wiltshire Air Ambulance on Tuesday (30 May).

Emergency services were called to an assault in Worle High Street, in Weston-super-Mare, at 4.30pm.

A man, aged in his 50s, sustained knife wounds in the attack – and was flown to Southmead Hospital’s Major Trauma Centre in Bristol. He’s now in a stable condition.

“Officers attended almost immediately and are very grateful to members of the public who assisted at the scene”, an Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said.

Adding: “A weapon has been seized.”

A man, aged in his 60s, was arrested just a few minutes after the incident took place and is currently being held on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The suspect remains in custody and is being questioned by detectives.

It’s understood the two men are known to one another. The force said that they do not believe there is a risk to the wider community.

Residents may see an increased police presence whilst the investigation continues.
