Woman seriously injured during hit-and-run in Malmesbury countryside

A woman was seriously injured during a hit-and-run in the Malmesbury countryside.

The victim was cycling along Pond Lane, near Charlton, at around 1pm on Monday 2 October, when she was struck by a silver saloon-type vehicle.

She sustained a serious leg injury and was hospitalised for 12 days. She has since left the hospital, but remains in severe pain.

The vehicle involved was allegedly travelling at excess speed and failed to stop at the scene.

The woman, aged in her 70s, was left injured at the roadside, PC Charles Joseph explained.

He said: “This is a very concerning incident in which a woman in her 70s was knocked off her bike, and left injured by the side of the road.

“She was helped by another motorist and spent 12 days in hospital. She is still reporting a lot of pain.

“We have been carrying out a number of enquiries including watching through CCTV and are now seeking the help of the public for information that could help them piece together what happened.”
