Corsham woman scratched “cheating scum” into ex-boyfriend’s car

A Corsham woman scratched numerous unsavoury phrases into her ex-boyfriend’s car.

Appearing at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday, 17 August), 27-year-old Hannah Powell pleaded guilty to a single count of criminal damage.

Prosecutor Pauline Lambert said the defendant, of Light Close, had sparked a police response by banging on her ex-boyfriend’s front door on 28 January this year.

On arrival at the scene in Braemor Road, Calne, officers found the man’s door intact but discovered damage to his Isuzu pick-up truck.

A number of phrases had been scratched into the vehicle, including: “I f**ked Hannah”, “cheating scum” and “this s**t isn’t over”.

The victim claimed it would cost £980 to repair the damage, which was thought to have been done with a key.

The court heard that the pair had been in a relationship for three years, but Powell attended his home and damaged the vehicle after finding out that he had been seeing another woman.

District Judge Joanna Dickens accepted the defendant has been struggling as a result of difficulties in the relationship – some of which were too sensitive to publish.

Accepting this incident was a one-off, she imposed a one-year conditional discharge and told Powell to pay £300 compensation to her ex-boyfriend towards the cost of the repair work.
