Emergency services were called to a home in Westbury this afternoon following reports of a woman being injured after opening a package from Amazon containing white powder.

Four fire crews, two ambulances, two Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) units and police officers attended the scene on Brembridge Road at around 2.30pm today.

A senior firefighter at the scene confirmed that a female suffered minor burns to her finger, but remained in the property while 999 crews worked to identify the corrosive substance.

A short time later, following testing, it was confirmed as non-hazardous. However, the police have not said what the substance is believed to be.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Officers were called by the ambulance service to an address in Bremeridge Road, Westbury, shortly after 2pm today to a report that a package delivered to the address had a small amount of unknown substance on it, described as white powder.

“Fire and ambulance were in attendance at the scene. The substance was tested by the fire service and found to be non-suspicious.”
