Woman attacked five police officers, two paramedics and a custody officer – all in one day

A woman attacked five police officers, two paramedics and a custody officer – all in one day.

Sarah Evans, 33, pleaded guilty to a plethora of offences when she appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning (Wednesday, 28 September).

The defendant, of Great Western Hotel in Station Road, Swindon, admitted eight assaults on emergency workers and a Public Order Act offence.

Pauline Lambert, prosecuting, said Evans headbutted two paramedics and kneed one of them to the groin on 9 July this year. As a result, one of them had to take time off work.

Summarising the assaults on five police officers, Ms Lambert said that they sustained numerous kicks – including to the neck, arms and knees – and scratches on their bodies.

The detention officer assaulted was spat at and sustained a grazed forearm.

Andrew Purkiss, defending, said his client has had mental health issues for the 15 years she has known her, including emotionally unstable personality disorder, ADHA and OCD.

He added that this incident occurred after Evans had been drinking “more than she should” as it was the anniversary of her mother’s death – who died whilst she was in prison.

From the dock, Evans told District Judge Joanna Dickens: “I just need some help.”

She replied: “I know.”

Later, she added: “Assault on police officers are really serious, we’re not going to have any police officers if people keep assaulting them.

“This was a really nasty incident.”

Judge Dickens adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report to be compiled and said the case could be committed to the crown court for sentence if required.

The defendant was released on unconditional bail until next month.
