Wiltshire graveyard cordoned off as police start ‘archaeological dig’

A village graveyard has been cordoned off as a crime scene by Wiltshire Police.

The force taped off a section of the St Andrew’s Church grounds this morning (Monday 18 October), as part of an “archaeological investigation”.

Several forensic tents were erected at the scene in Collingbourne Ducis, where specialist forensics are set to dig over the coming days and weeks.

It’s not known how long the churchyard investigation will take, but the relatives of graves within the cordon have been informed of the operation.

“This should not cause any disruption to the public, with the route remaining open for pedestrians”, a police spokesperson said in a statement.

This afternoon, there were several police officers guarding the area and two crime scene investigation vans parked at the scene.
