Wiltshire Council activates ‘severe weather provisions’ for homeless

Wiltshire Council has activated it’s severe weather emergency provisions, which is also know as SWEP, amid concerns the temperature may drop below freezing.

Councils in the UK have a statutory duty to provide rough sleepers somewhere warm when the weather is predicted to fall to 0 degrees or below for three consecutive nights.

The SWEP was activated on Wednesday 8 February.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council said: “We have triggered those provisions with temperatures forecast to remain at zero or below until early next week based on current predictions. As a result, we are offering overnight accommodation for those affected and individuals should attend our Housing Options Hubs as soon as possible for help and support.”
