Critical care medics use cars while Wiltshire Air Ambulance out of action

Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s critical care medics will respond to emergencies using cars as the helicopter is expected to be out of action for a month.

The yellow and green medical helicopter hasn’t been spotted in the skies of Wiltshire for at least the past two weeks, and is expected to remain out of action until mid-April.

A source at the charity told Wiltshire 999s today that the helicopter would be grounded for around a month, and said it could related to the issues which grounded the air ambulance for a large chunk of 2018.

It was offline for some time following a malfunction which saw the Bell 429 spin out of control at high speed while the air crew were performing an engine maintenance check on 15 June 2018.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Air Ambulance said: “The aircraft is off on scheduled maintenance and is due back next week. In the meantime we continue to be operational with our two Rapid Response Vehicles.”
