Westbury house fire: Aerial photos reveal extent of damage

Aerial photos have revealed the extent of the damage caused during a house fire in Westbury.

Nine fire crews rushes to battle the flames at a large residential property in The Stables, off The Butts, at around 6pm on Monday afternoon (15 January).

An aerial ladder platform appliance, a command unit and fire officers were in attendance.

One person taken to hospital so a precaution. Another person received first aid on scene.

Aerial photographs taken this morning (Tuesday) revealed the extent of the damage. The fire appears to have affected an upstairs bedroom and bathroom.

It’s understood that firefighters removed the roof to fight the flames, exposing the property. More than 50 firefighters were involved in the efforts of bring the blaze under control.

In a statement, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 6.05pm yesterday evening with reports of a domestic property fire on The Butts, Westbury.

“Crews from Westbury, Warminster (x2) and the aerial ladder platform from Salisbury were initially mobilised to the incident, with crews from Trowbridge (x2), Bradford on Avon, Mere, Calne and Melksham mobilised soon after.”

They added: “The incident involved a fire in the roof space which spread to other areas – Crews used eight sets of breathing apparatus, three main lines and multiple hose reels to extinguish the fire.

“One person was given first aid at the scene and a second was taken to hospital as a precaution.

“Our stop was in at 12.34am and a fire investigation will determine the cause.”
