‘Weapon threats’ cause armed police response and road closure in Devizes

A Devizes road was closed by police after they were called to a concerning incident.

Armed officers were deployed to an address in Hillworth Road at around 5pm on Saturday (28 May) after concerns were raised for the welfare of a person there.

The person involved reportedly made various threats, including the mention of weapons.

As a result, to protect the public from the potential threat, motorists and pedestrians were stopped from passing the scene for at least one hour.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that no arrests were made, describing the person as suffering from a “mental health episode” at the time of the incident.

No weapons were found and nobody was injured.
