Off-duty police officer involved in crash in which 90-year-old man died

The police watchdog has launched an investigation into a fatal crash in Salisbury on Saturday.

A 90-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by specialist air ambulance medics when he was struck by a car being driven by an off-duty police officer.

The Wiltshire-based officer was driving a Volkswagen Golf, which collided with the elderly man on Wilton Road at just before 5pm on 21 December.

A road closures was in place for several hours while collision investigators worked at the scene, with the road reopening at around 11pm.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), but no arrests have been made, according to a Wiltshire Police spokesperson.

Anyone with information or dash cam footage of the road traffic collision is asked to call police on 101 and quote log number 284 of Saturday December 21.
