Two injured in pursuit with suspected drink driver in Chippenham town centre

Two people – including a police officer – were injured during a pursuit with a suspected drink driver in Chippenham last night.

Officers were called to reports of a driver being intoxicated whilst driving a Volkswagen Golf in the town centre at around 8.30pm. On arrival the vehicle made off, almost colliding with two pedestrians.

A pursuit was authorised but the vehicle was lost to sight in the Bristol Road area. During the chase, a police car was involved in a collision with a Peugeot 3008 on Marshfield Road.

The National Police Air Service plane – which was in the area for training – was tasked and circled the town in search of the two occupants of the car.

The suspect wasn’t located in the search but and an investigation is ongoing.
