Trowbridge criminal who failed to engage with probation avoids prison

A Trowbridge criminal who failed to engage with the probation service has avoided prison.

Toby Hitt was convicted of possessing a knuckle duster in Station Road, Devizes, in February 2022.

At Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 21 February 2022, the 32-year-old was given a community order and told to work with the probation service to address his problems.

However, due to his “wilful and persistent failure to comply with the requirements” of the order, he was brought back before the court – where he admitted the breach.

On 18 December, he pleaded guilty to a new offence of possessing a baton in public.

Magistrates revoked the order and re-sentenced him to an eight-week prison sentence suspended for one year and told to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to complete ten rehabilitation activity days with the probation service.

Hitt, of Bramsden Road, Trowbridge, faces going to prison if he fails to comply again.
