Trial for Swindon man, 68, who denies biting two officers in custody suite

A man who denies assaulting two officers in a custody suite faces a trial.

Michael Cubbin, 68, appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court via video link from Gablecross Police Station on Friday morning.

The defendant, of Dacre Road, Swindon, is accused of biting a police sergeant and attempting to bite a detention officer whilst in Gablecross custody on 5 November last year.

It’s alleged Mr Cubbin was told that he would need to provide DNA and fingerprints whilst in the suite on an unrelated matter. He was told if he failed to comply, force would be used.

It’s claimed that when he was moved to the room for processing, there’s a struggle which results in the pair being injured.

Mr Cubbin pleaded not guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency working and opted for a trial at the magistrates’ court. He will return on 6 August.
