Trains cancelled after Storm Francis blows large marquee onto railway line

Trains were cancelled in West Wiltshire after a large marquee was blown onto the line today.

It happened at around 4pm this afternoon, with services between Melksham and Chippenham cancelled whilst the railway was blocked in both directions.

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “It’s been a tad blowy today. Winds have been so strong that this huge marquee ended up on the railway at Melksham in Wiltshire.”

The obstruction was removed from the line and services resumed at around 6.30pm.
