Traffic stopped on M4 due to ‘cows loose on the carriageway’

Traffic has been stopped on the M4 in both directions this evening (Tuesday).

It’s after a number of cows managed to access the carriageway at around 6.10pm.

The motorway is blocked between junctions 16 (Swindon) and 17 (Chippenham).

Motorists can expect delays as National Highways – supported by Wiltshire Police – deal with the escaped animals.

“Please be patient we’ll get you moving again as soon as we can”, a spokesperson said.
