Traffic builds up after lorry hits railway bridge in Swindon town centre

UPDATE: The road reopened by around 4pm – the incident was not as serious as first thought.


Traffic is building up after a lorry hit a railway bridge in Swindon town centre.

Police were called to the incident in Corporation Street at around 3pm today (Tuesday).

It’s understood a small lorry has struck and become stuck under Whitehouse Bridge.

Traffic is building up in the area, with Great Western Way and Station Road most affected.

The route is blocked in both directions – and it’s not clear how long it will take to recover the vehicle.
