Traffic light remains upright after being wiped out by car and dragged 50 metres

A car wiped out a traffic light in a dramatic Sunday afternoon crash.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Bath Road, Swindon, at around 4pm today (20 March).

The broad daylight collision saw a single traffic light column ripped out of the ground and embedded in a black Honda Civic.

The car dragged – whilst the column remained upright – about 50 metres down Bath Road before it came to rest on the mini roundabout at the top of Kingshill Road.

The driver reportedly suffered a medical episode at the wheel.

The police, ambulance service and a fire crew attended the incident, which partially blocked the road.

The Honda was recovered at around 6pm, when the car was spotted on the back of a recovery truck.

Wiltshire Police says a man in his 70s was taken to hospital with a head injury.
