BREAKING: Cabot Circus evacuated by police after call about bomb

Thousands of people were evacuated from Cabot Circus by the police tonight after police received information about a bomb being inside the building.

At around 8pm, the shopping centre was evacuated in wake of the shocking news, and a large police, fire and ambulance response attended the scene.

At 9.15pm, Inspector Trevor Sweeting, bronze commander at the scene, said: “There was information received that there was a bomb inside Cabot Circus.

“We were told it was going to go off at a certain time and we’ve evacuated the area and are doing a search. It should be completed in the next 30 minutes.”

A phone box has also been sealed off by police officers and forensics are on scene.

The shopping centre reopened at 9.45pm.

Avon & Somerset Police said: “The cordon and road diversions put in place around Cabot Circus Shopping Centre in Bristol this evening have now been lifted.

“The centre has been reopened after it was established there was no risk to the public.

“Our priority is always to protect you and ensure you are safe and we’d like to thank you all for your support and understanding.”
