Two teenagers charged with setting fire to Swindon park in £30,000 arson attack

Two teenagers have been charged with setting fire to a play park in Swindon.

The boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are accused of causing £30,000 worth of damage to the children’s facility in Tadpole Garden Village last year.

Tomorrow (21 June), the duo – aged 14 and 15 – are due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court.

Firefighters were called to extinguish a blaze involving the slide tower in Town Park, which was unveiled in 2018, at approximately 7.50am on 20 November.

Commenting at the time, Acting Sgt Keith Macdonald said: “This type of mindless behaviour is just completely unacceptable – as a result of this fire, this popular piece of equipment is completely out of action for the young children living nearby who enjoy the facilities on a regular basis.

“I’d like to thank local residents for their assistance with our enquiries this morning which led us to the arrest of a local teenager in connection with the arson.”
