Teenager ‘carrying a knife’ arrested in Malmesbury town centre

A teenager ‘carrying a knife’ was arrested in Malmesbury town centre.

Police were called at around 2am on Monday (10 July) and detained the 17-year-old boy.

He was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a knife and has since been charged to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 1 August.

Local officers also arrested two 18-year-old men on suspicion of criminal damage following numerous incidents of graffiti being sprayed across the town.

One of these men was further arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class B drug. He has been interviewed and bailed with a curfew whilst enquiries continue.

Sgt Kate Smith said: “The Neighbourhood Team remains fully committed to tackling youth related anti-social behaviour incidents in Malmesbury.

“We know incidents of criminal damage are disrespectful and upsetting for local residents who feel a sense of pride in their town.

“We will continue to work with young people in our town to ensure incidents of this nature do not become a regular occurrence and will ensure those responsible for anti-social behaviour in our town are dealt with robustly.”
