Teenage boy arrested after armed police deployed to incident in Swindon

A teenage boy has been arrested by armed police officers in Swindon.

Wiltshire Police says they deployed firearms officers to an incident in Windsor Road at around 2.30pm on Sunday (22 August).

The road was closed between Sandringham Road and Wigmore Avenue as police dealt with the incident.

A teenage boy, whose exact age is currently unknown, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place.

In a statement, the force wrote: “We were called to an incident on Windsor Road, Lawn, Swindon, at approximately 2.30pm.

“Due to the nature of the incident reported, firearms officers attended, and the road was closed temporarily.

“A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place. He has been taken to Gablecross Police Station where he remains in custody.

“We’d like to reassure the community that there is no wider risk to the public and we are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident.”
