Swindon trains: Casualty dies after being hit by train on level crossing

A casualty has died after being hit by a train on a level crossing near Didcot.

Emergency services were called to Causeway Crossing in the Oxfordshire village of Steventon at around 9.30pm yesterday evening (Wednesday, 25 October).

The train involved was a Great Western Railway Cheltenham Spa to London Paddington service and the road was blocked whilst 999 crews attended the scene.

The incident sparked delays at Bath, Chippenham and Swindon stations until the line reopened at around 11pm.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line in Milton at 21.19pm last night (25 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
