Swindon town centre road closed following serious incident involving taxi

Police in Swindon are appealing for anyone that knows the identity of the driver of a taxi involved in a serious crash last night to come forward.

Corporation Street was shut between the Manchester Road and Carfax Street junctions at around 8pm, after a person was hit by a car.

They were taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious injuries.

A black private hire vehicle from the firm United was the vehicle involved in the collision, but police say they are unsure of the identity of the driver.

A number of units from Tri-force Specialist Operations are at the scene, including an armed response unit and a roads policing unit.

The road was closed for around six hours but reopened in the early hours of Sunday.

Wiltshire Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding the incident, including the identity of the driver of the car, to call them on 101.
