Swindon man nearly crashed into police car whilst on cocaine and cannabis

A Swindon man who nearly crashed into a police car whilst driving under the influence of cocaine and cannabis has been sentenced.

Craig Edward Deyager, of Affleck Close, Toothill, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (3 August).

In the early hours of 21 November last year, officers on patrol in Chippenham saw a Skoda Fabia leave the A350 and narrowly avoid colliding with the side of their marked vehicle.

The car was stopped and while speaking to the driver, officers smelt cannabis. Deyager was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after failing a drugs wipe – testing positive for both cocaine and cannabis.

The 36-year-old was handed a three-year driving ban, fined £150 and ordered to pay a £34 surcharge and Crown Prosecution Service costs of £85.

PC Luke Hobbs said: “There is never an excuse to drive whilst under the influence of drugs, Deyager’s irresponsible and unlawful actions could have potentially put his own and others’ lives in danger.

“I hope this sentence sends a strong message that we will not tolerate such behaviour and anyone flouting the rules can expect to face tough sanctions.”
