Swindon man remanded in custody charged with attempted rape and sexual assault

A Swindon man has been remanded in custody charged with attempted rape.

Luke Jackel, 31, is accused of assault, sexual assault, sexual assault by penetration, and attempted rape – but gave no indication of pleas.

It’s alleged the defendant, of Tavistock Road, attacked his victim on Wednesday, 3 November, but no further details were provided to the court.

Two of the offences Jackel is charged with are indictable only, meaning the case can only be dealt with by a crown court.

Prosecutor Keith Ballinger asked the magistrates to remand him into custody ahead of his next appearance over fears he would commit further offences or interfere with witnesses.

The bail application was not opposed by the defence.

Magistrates remanded him into custody and his case will next be heard at Swindon Crown Court in early December.
