Swindon man appears in court accused of raping 12-year-old he met on Snapchat

A man has appeared in court charged with the rape of a 12-year-old girl.

Corey Redshaw, 24, is accused of having sexual intercourse with the youngster after arranging to meet her on social media platform Snapchat earlier this year.

Swindon Magistrates’ Court last week (18 May), Pauline Lambert alleged the defendant, of Croft Road, Old Town, had been talking to the child for several weeks and claimed he was 17.

The victim met Redshaw with him and they allegedly had sexual intercourse.

Ms Lambert asked for a remand in custody ahead of his crown court hearing, but defence solicitor Mark Glendenning made a bail application.

He said his client believed the alleged victim was 17 and denies rape, adding that the intercourse was ‘consensual’.

Magistrates remanded Redshaw in custody until his plea and trial preparation hearing at Swindon Crown Court on 17 June.

The alleged victim in this case has the lifelong right to anonymity. It is an imprisonable criminal offence to share any piece of information that could lead to the identification of the alleged victim.
