Swindon garden centre worker stole nearly £6K – but avoids prison

A garden centre worker who stole nearly £6,000 has avoided a prison sentence.

Horriette Evoloko, who also goes by the name Katara Horia Sparrow, pleaded guilty to fraud by abuse of position at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday).

Whilst working as an Operations Expert at Dobbies Garden Centre in Hyde Road, a role that involved the supervision of finances, the defendant pocketed thousands of pounds.

Between August 2022 and November 2022, a total of £5,861.32 was stolen.

District Judge Dickens imposed a 12-month community order on Evoloko, of Banksome Road, Swindon, with the requirement to complete 150 hours of unpaid work in the community.

She must also pay £85 prosecution and a £114 surcharge. However, no award for compensation was made.
