Swindon company director convicted of downloading extreme images

A company director has been convicted of downloading a stash of extreme pornography.

55-year-old Julian Nelson was arrested by Wiltshire Police over fears he may have been accessing indecent images of children – but that wasn’t the case.

However, on examining devices that were seized from his home, he was found to have images and videos portraying acts likely to result in serious injury to person’s private parts.

Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, said the defendant told officers in interview that he had sought and downloaded only adult material and had no interest in children.

Nelson said he had an interest in bondage and BDSM, and that is what he was searching the internet for.

He was sentenced at Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday) after pleading guilty to the possession of extreme pornographic images at a previous hearing.

Mr Bennett, defending, said his client feels “embarrassment and shame” and “shows genuine remorse”.

He said that he is not just remorseful because he has been caught, but now he “realises how serious these matters are” – matters that also risked his relationship.

The court heard that Nelson, who is a director of Brookson (5286C) Limited in Warrington, Cheshire, had “difficulties forming intimate relationships in the past”.

Mr Bennett added that the defendant’s partner was “shocked” about the images he possessed and “very much has Mr Nelson on probation”. He said that it would be “devastating for him if she were to leave him” and he is “working very hard to make sure that doesn’t happen”.

He said Nelson, of Highworth Road, Swindon, will “stay clear of accessing any form of pornography”.

The magistrates imposed a 24-month community order with the requirement to complete 60 sessions of rehabilitation – including a thinking skills programme.

He was also fined £1083 and told to pay £85 costs and a £95 surcharge.
