Swindon ‘at risk of being placed into higher tier’ as cases begin to rise dramatically

Swindon is at risk of being placed into Tier 3 or 4 as cases begin to rise dramatically.

A spokesperson for Swindon Borough Council said: “Unfortunately we are seeing a rapid rise in COVID-19 cases in Swindon.

“As of today (Monday 21 Dec) Swindon’s seven-day rolling average case rate is 172 per 100,000, up from 142 on Friday (18 December). This equates to nearly 400 new cases in the past seven days. The national case rate as of today is 263 per 100,000 and 121 per 100,000 in the South West.

“Reducing the further spread and prospect of additional restrictions being imposed on Swindon depends on our actions in the days ahead.

“It’s up to all of us to minimise the extra burden on our local health services. Protecting hospital beds and capacity to provide the medical care and treatment we depend on.”

The next tier review is on 30 December 2020.
