Swindon domestic abuser charged with having mobile phone in prison

A domestic abuser from Swindon has been charged with having a mobile phone in prison.

‘Jealous and possessive’ Jason Ranford was serving a two-year custodial sentence for assaulting his wife outside Kioki nightclub in May 2022.

He grabbed her around the neck and threw her on the floor, leaving her with severe bruising around her neck and a black eye. Read the court story >

It’s alleged that whilst he was an inmate at HM Prison Erlestoke, near Devizes, he was in possession of a mobile phone without authority on 6 January this year.

At Salisbury Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday, 7 December), he pleaded not guilty to the offence and a trial date was set for 29 February 2024.
