Suspected drug driver arrested after ‘parking in middle of country lane’

A suspected drug driver has been arrested after ‘parking in the middle of a country lane’.

Police were called to a report about the sole occupant of a stationary Land Rover Freelander near Chippenham at around 5.30pm this afternoon (Tuesday).

The vehicle had seemingly parked in Fowlswick Lane, in Allington, and practically blocked the narrow road.

It’s understood a passing motorist came upon the car and called the police – reporting that the male driver was behaving abnormally within the vehicle.

Officers arrived at the scene and asked the driver to provide a sample of breath and saliva to test for both alcohol and drugs at the roadside.

Following a positive result on the drug wipe, the man – thought to be in his 20s or 30s – was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

The road was blocked in both directions until shortly before 6.30pm, when the male was taken to custody and an officer moved his vehicle.
