Suspected drink driver arrested after ‘sitting in crashed car for three hours’

A suspected drink driver has been arrested after crashing into a parked car in Swindon.

The man, aged in his 50s, was found in a blue Ford Kuga nearly three hours after after it was involved in a minor collision with a silver Vauxhall Corsa in Buckhurst Crescent, Swindon.

A local resident heard the impact at around 6am yesterday (Saturday, 18 November), but only went to investigate the situation when they noticed that the driver remained in the vehicle at 8.50am.

It’s alleged that on speaking to the driver, the resident found him to be slurring his words and made little sense during a conversation.

The police were called to the scene and the driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drink driving – after providing a positive sample of breath at the roadside.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson confirmed that officers were called to a “minor collision between a car and a parked car a few hours previously”.

Adding: “Upon attendance, a man in his 50s was found behind the wheel of one of the vehicles. He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and has been taken to custody for questioning.”
