Suspected car thief arrested after Mercedes chase ends in A36 crash

A suspected car thief has been arrested following a pursuit in Wiltshire today (Friday).

Police were made aware of a Mercedes entering the county on the A36 in Warminster at 10.30am.

The vehicle was believed to have been stolen during a burglary in the Avon and Somerset area.

A pursuit was authorised after the driver failed to stop for officers.

Soon after, the driver ploughed the vehicle into a central reservation on the A36 in Salisbury, fleeing the scene on foot along Meadow Road.

He was later located and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.

The suspect was taken to Avon and Somerset Police custody suite, where he will be questioned in relation to the alleged car theft.

Anyone who witnessed the pursuit or has dashcam footage should call 101 and quote log number 85 of today.
