Supermarket manager and police officer assaulted during ‘disturbance’

A supermarket manager was forced to detain a woman who assaulted him in Swindon on Wednesday.

Police officers were called to reports of a ‘disturbance’ breaking out in Morrisons at around 6.30pm after a customer reportedly began pushing and spitting at a manager.

A second member of staff helped him detain the woman as police raced to the Eldene store.

When police arrived at the scene, an officer was also assaulted by the woman.

In a statement to Wiltshire 999s, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called to Morrisons at around 6.30pm yesterday following reports of a disturbance.

“When officers arrived a woman in her 20s was being aggressive towards staff and our officers.

“The local woman was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an officer and a member of shop staff.”
