Storm Ciarán LIVE: Swindon and Wiltshire is braced for flooding and strong winds – with a yellow weather warning in place locally and amber warnings further south.

1pm – Swindon: The B4019 between Highworth and Blunsdon is impassible due to flooding, as is Highworth Road near the turning for Stanton Park.


11.30am – Wroughton: Old Devizes Road has been closed due to flooding from an overflowing stream near St Joseph’s Church. The council have deployed sandbags and four pumps.


11.20am – countywide: Wiltshire Police says driving in the rain “can be one of the most difficult driving situations a driver encounters” and it is “directly associated with higher accident rates”.

They added: “We’d urge drivers to take extra care today as [the Met Office] have issued a yellow weather warning for rain and wind.”


11.10am – Wilton: Branches falling from trees in The Avenue area have caused damage to at least one vehicle. A WV Golf has sustained a significant impact, likely writing off the car.


10.40am – Swindon: Police are currently responding to reports of a landslide in a village near Swindon – read full story >


10.30am – Swindon: Queens Drive is flooded in the Windsor Road area – traffic is slowly flowing through, but the water is deep.


9.35am – Wroughton: Comet Road is flooded, with Stagecoach – the bus company – unable to pass towards Thorney Park. This indicates that the road is impassible to all motorists.


8.59am – Broad Town: The brook in Marlborough Road has broken its bank – the road is flooding and getting deeper by the minute. It is likely to become impassable in due course.


8.45am – Devizes: Lower Road, Erlestoke, is blocked due to a flood and a stranded vehicle within it.



7.57am – Burbage: Police have closed the A338 between Burbage and Collingbourne Kingston. This is due to severe flooding on the route near Chopper’s Cafe.


7.55am – countywide: Due to severe weather the line between Newbury and Westbury is currently blocked. Great Western Railway say no services are expected to run until at least midday.


7.49am – Salisbury: There is heavy flooding at Dean on the line between Salisbury and Southampton Central. The line is currently blocked.


7.32am – Salisbury: Denison Rise in Bishopdown is flooded, with the road impassable for some motorists.
