The bridge, which links Baydon’s Wood and Monkton Park over the River Avon, was left damaged.

Officers investigating the incident deemed it suspicious and believe the bike was stolen prior to the arson.

The vehicle was recovered from the scene before emergency services left the area at around 10.30pm.

An investigation is ongoing. The force asks anyone with information to call 101 and quote crime reference number 54230023157. Alternatively, they can call CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Blue Bridge remains open to pedestrians, however, a small section is cordoned off.
