Santa Claus set to visit homes in west Swindon on vintage fire engine

West Swindon residents will get to meet a Santa Claus outside their homes tonight.

Both on and off duty firefighters from Westlea Community Fire Station will be parading the streets Westlea from 5.30pm this evening in a bid to raise money for The Fire Fighter’s Charity, which helps injured or ill fire professionals across the country.

Santa will be riding on the roof of a vintage fire engine, escorted by Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service’s regular fire appliance and the off-road blue light-equipped Land Rover.

Tonight’s event will take place in the Westlea Drive area, but later in the month – on the 11 and 17 December – the crew will be covering Shaw, Sparcells, Peatmoor and Ridgeway Farm.

Firefighters will be responding to emergency calls as normal, but from the location of the Christmas parade.

To grab residents’ attention, blue lights and sirens will be turned on as they arrive.
