Sainsbury’s shoppers are being warned to check that they do not have a potentially fatal pack of beef burgers in their freezers, after some customers fell ill with E. coli O157.
The organism’s symptoms include diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloody diarrhoea, and haemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.
Public Health England has identified a number of cases with E. coli O157 infection; investigations found a possible link to Taste the Difference Aberdeen Angus British Beef Quarter Pounders (4 pack frozen).
Batches with July 2018, September 2018 and October 2018 best-before dates have been recalled.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “If you have bought any of the above batches do not eat them. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
