Roads near Stonehenge are ‘extremely busy’ due to the winter solstice, police say.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area for the duration of this morning (Friday) due to significant numbers of people gathering for the annual event.

The English Heritage car park is full, leading to people abandoning vehicles in the vicinity.

Google Maps confirms there is severe congestion on the A303, A360 and the B3086.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Motorists please be aware that the roads around Stonehenge are currently extremely busy due to people gathering at the site to mark the winter solstice.

“The car parks at Stonehenge have now reached full capacity.

“Please avoid the area and seek alternative routes if possible as delays are expected for the duration of the morning.”
