Road in Swindon cordoned off by police over ‘suspicious package’

Police closed a main road in Swindon after a suspicious package was found this morning (Wednesday).

Sheppard Street, near Swindon railway station, was cordoned off following the discovery at around 11am.

However, investigations proved the package was not anything of concern and the cordon was lifted.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We responded to reports of a suspicious package in Station Road, Swindon just after 11am this morning (08/03).

“The road was closed while our officers investigated. When the item was found to be safe we reopened the road.”
