In a post on his own Facebook page Bob Life, his owners said they “will be seeking to press charges for criminal damage against the man”, adding that his behaviour is “totally unacceptable”.

They want anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them directly via the cat’s Facebook page, which has more than 1,600 followers.

On Facebook, witness Jason Lane said the incident occurred after the suspect was “told by the shop assistant to get to the back of the queue”.

Adding: “[He] decided to take his frustration out and kick Bob who was sat doing nothing. The next time I see you do that I will see how you like being kicked.”

Local resident Elizabeth Pleasant said: “I was in the shop and experienced how rude the man was to the shop assistant which was totally unacceptable.

“I didn’t see him assault Bob so cannot help I’m afraid but poor Bob was visually on edge as I pulled off in my car.”

Wiltshire 999s understands Bob was not hurt in the incident, but shaken up at the time.
