It’s understood the person was struck as the train approached Oldfield Park station, which has now been cordoned off whilst emergency services deal with the scene.

The mainline between Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads is blocked – but the line is expected to reopen before 5pm.

In a statement, GWR said: “Due to a person hit by a train between Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa all lines are blocked.

“Disruption is expected until 16:45 09/11.

“Train services between Bath Spa and Swindon may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or diverted between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads. Chippenham and Bath Spa will not be served.

“We cannot run trains through the affected area until emergency services declare the line is ready.”
