Public call 999 after witnessing hot air balloon ‘crash landing’

Members of the public called 999 this evening after witnessing what they believed to be a hot air balloon crash landing in a residential street in Swindon.

The Virgin balloon landed off Guildford Avenue in the Lawn area at around 8.20pm, sparking concerned residents to call the emergency services fearing it was an unplanned landing.

Two fire crews were dispatched to the scene, but on arrival discovered it was a planned landing in a large field. A firefighter at the incident said it was a 999 call with “good intent”.
