Prison term for ‘narcissist’ who kidnapped ex-wife in Swindon street

A man described as a ‘narcissist’ has been handed a prison term for kidnapping his ex-wife.

Recruitment consultant Wasif Bajwa, 37, was found guilty of kidnap and assault occasioning actual bodily harm at a trial at Swindon Crown Court earlier this year.

At a previous hearing, prosecutor Kate Prince said that the defendant – along with an unknown male accomplice – ran out of an alleyway as his ex-wife returned home from work on 30 August 2022.

He took control of her car whilst the other male grabbed her arm and prevented her from getting escaping. As the vehicle was driven into Markenfield, Toothill, the woman was hanging out of the door – screaming.

Two independent witnesses, who arrived near the end of the incident, rushed to help the victim – who was found lying face-down on the ground and in distress.

One of the witnesses even called the police on 999 to report what he believed may have been a stabbing, based on the hysterical screaming.

Ms Prince said that evidence showed that Bajwa had been waiting outside the woman’s address for approximately five hours prior to the kidnapping.

At the same court on 29 March, the judge described him as a narcissist, controlling and manipulative man.

Bajwa, of Foxearth Road, South Croydon, was jailed for four years and six months. An indefinite restraining order was also imposed.
