Police use Surrons to play Swindon criminals at their own game

Wiltshire Police are now using Surrons to play criminals at their own game.

Roads policing officers are riding the speedy and nimble electric bikes, often popular with drug dealers and anti-social youths, to crack down on crime in Swindon.

This morning (Thursday), an officer on a marked and blue light capable Surron – thought to be an Ultra Bee – stopped a male using a homemake electric bike in Cricklade Road.

A short time later, they spotted a moped being ridden through a play park. The moped previously failed to stop for police but the officer managed to catch the suspect with help of the new dirt bike.

The officer said: “Checks on the rider revealed he skipped court and is wanted on warrant… unlucky for the rider they won’t make their holiday flight today.”

In Swindon town centre an officer used the Surron to sneak up on a male wanted for five offences.

They also seized a motorbike due to the rider not having insurance. Moments later an e-scooter rider was stopped and dealt with for numerous motoring offences.

Yesterday, officers stopped and seized an e-scooter being ridden illegal in Trowbridge. Earlier in the day, they arrested a driver for drug driving after performing a dangerous overtake.
