Police seize electric scooter from man spotted riding it on Calne road

The electric scooter seized by police in Calne

An electric scooter has been seized after a man was seen riding it on the road.

Police in Calne stopped the rider of the illegal vehicle in the town yesterday, taking the scooter – which is not road legal – from him.

The machines are currently illegal to ride in public and must only be used on private land, meaning riders commit road traffic offences if they are caught using them on pavements or roads.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Police in Calne today had cause to stop a male on an electric scooter. This was seized after the male was seen riding on the road.

“These scooters are only allowed to be ridden on private premises. Riding one of these on a road or pavement could get you up to nine points on your driving licence.”

Last month, police seized two electric scooters being ridden in public spaces in Trowbridge.
