49-year-old man arrested after man stabbed in the hand in Highworth

A man’s been arrested after another man was stabbed in Highworth yesterday.

Police officers rushed to the incident in the area of Sammy’s Takeaway and the Dolphin Fishbar on Swindon Street at around 10.40pm on Tuesday.

A crime scene was erected around a lane near the incident location, where a 21-year-old suffered serious injuries to his hand; he was rushed to hospital.

There was also a large police presence – of around five units – on Church View and further five units, including police dogs, were also in the vicinity of Stapleton Close.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Police were called to an incident on Swindon Street in Highworth at around 10:40pm last night.

“A 21-year-old man was located with serious injuries to his hand and was taken to hospital for treatment. His condition is not life-threatening.

“A 49-year-old man was arrested and taken to Gablecross police station.

“We’d like to reassure the public that we believe this to be an isolated incident. Anyone with information who has not already spoke to police should call 101.”
