Police respond as little boy found wandering the streets in his dressing gown

A little boy has reportedly been found wandering the streets in his dressing gown.

Police officers are this morning (21 February) trying to establish where the youngster lives, having been called to reports of a lost child in Swindon.

The boy, thought to be aged 4 or 5, was located walking in the Cricklade Road area before being ushered into a supermarket by a worried member of the public.

Officers attended the Co-op Food store, on the junction with Chapel Street, at around 8.30am.

They took him into their police car, where they are working to find the youngster’s home address.

A witness told Wiltshire 999s that the boy was “talking about going to the play park and doesn’t know where he lives”.

They say the boy was wearing a grey fluffy dressing gown, shorts and blue trainers – which were on the wrong feet.

Officers are said to have been scouring the local area after the boy pointed in the direction he believes his home is in.

UPDATE 9.30AM: Wiltshire Police has confirmed the boy has been returned home.

“We were called to a concern for welfare incident in Gorse Hill this morning at approximately 7.50am”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.

Adding: “This has been dealt with and the child has been returned home safely.”
